Brewster - Southeast , NY

The Town of Southeast, New York was founded in 1788 and is, not surprisingly, located in the southeast corner of Putnam County.  Yes, that is the origin of the Town name.

For commuting and general convenience, the town is situated at the crossroads of Interstate highways 684 and 84, and State Routes 22, 312, 6 and 202, the Town of Southeast also has two stops on Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line: one on Main Street in the Village of Brewster and the Southeast Station off Route 312 and Independent Way.

The town has a rich history.  It once was the home to Borden Condensed Milk, as well as other diaries and farms, iron mines, Revolutionary War figures, and circus troupes.

Southeast is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Putnam County. Brewster Village, approximately one square mile, is located in the center of the Town and is a separate municipality. The Village of Brewster was founded in 1894, and is named for Walter and James Brewster who, knowing that the Harlem Line Railroad would pass through Southeast, in Putnam County, constructed passenger and freight stations, donating the buildings to the Harlem Line Railroad.

The post office for all residents of the Town of Southeast is Brewster, NY, and most residences in Southeast are serviced by the Brewster Central School District.
